Frequently Asked Questions

What happened to Google Web Cache and how does this replace it?

Google permanently discontinued its built-in Web Cache feature. Website Cached View provides the modern alternative by connecting directly with established public preservation services—including the Internet Archive (Wayback Machine) and archive.today—giving you instant access to preserved historical versions.

Is my browsing history tracked or saved when using this tool?

No. When you inspect a link, the URL is encoded into the URL hash fragment (the portion following #u=...). Standard web architecture (RFC 3986) dictates that hash fragments are never transmitted to our web server. All query parsing happens locally in your browser memory.

Can I capture a new snapshot of a page before it changes?

Yes. Website Cached View features built-in on-demand snapshot triggers for both the Wayback Machine (Save Page Now) and archive.today, enabling you to preserve permanent evidentiary captures with a single click.

What domain and network details are provided?

The inspector queries public RDAP (Registration Data Access Protocol) and Cloudflare DNS-over-HTTPS (DoH) to calculate domain age, time until expiration, authoritative registrar, nameservers, and live server IP addresses.
